Fans React To Lana Del Rey And Quavo’s ‘Tough’
Lana Del Rey’s latest collaboration with a rapper has fans going wild following the music video drop for “Tough” with Quavo. After teasing the song for weeks, the duo shared the full song on Wednesday (July 3) morning.
“Tough” starts with twangy guitar strings and begins with Lana’s angelic voice, while the trap beats of the song come in when it’s Quavo’s turn, who sings, “C’mon, take a ride with me. Like the 808’s beating in the trunk in Atlanta, it was tough.” When the chorus comes around once more, both Lana and Quavo sing, “Tough like the scuff on a pair of old leather boots, like the blue-collar, red-dirt attitude.”
The grainy music video has a Western, old-school vibe and was directed by Wyatt Spain Winfrey, a frequent collaborator of Migos. The video shows both musicians embracing and exploring the countryside together. The pair sit together in a field of tall grass, where they nearly share a kiss, and also appear in front of a cottage with an acoustic guitar. In other scenes, Quavo can be seen driving a Hummer while Del Rey joins him in the passenger seat.
The single was said to be a part of Del Rey’s upcoming country album, Lasso, which she announced back in May. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter said that Lasso would be “less to say in terms of any self-revealing things,” like on her 2023 album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd and Chemtrails over the Country Club. Instead, Lasso will be “more melodic,” more “American Songbook style.” Ahead of the song’s release, Lana wrote on Instagram: “Our new song is out with the toughest rapper I know @quavohuncho.”

Reacting to the epic collaboration over on X (formerly Twitter), fans expressed their love of the new track. One person wrote: “Just listened to Tough 10 times in a row.” Another fan shared a cursed image of Lana Del Rey’s face on a man’s body and wrote: “me singing quavo and lana del rey’s part in tough.” A third swooned, “obsessed with the southern aesthetic of tough’s mv.”
More fans wrote about the unexpected collaboration, with one person saying: “Lana Del Rey and Quavo in a music video together? That’s like a unicorn and a dragon teaming up to play poker with a mermaid. It’s unexpected, but somehow it just works.” Added another: “Lana & Quavo in the ‘Tough’ video is Country vibes meet Hollywood glam! Love the contrast & their strength.” Another fan wrote: “Such an odd pairing but it’s GIVING!!!”

As always, famous faces were in attendance, watching their friends perform and letting loose with the rest of the crowd. Notably, Justin Bieber showed up without his wife, Hailey Bieber, adding to the rumors that their marriage isn’t doing well. Meanwhile, love birds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce hit up multiple stages, watching from the pit and getting super affectionate.
While folks were expecting perfect shows and wild special guests brought on stage during performances, there were some artists who dropped the ball during their set. Grimes kept fumbling with her mixes during her set. She told the crowd that there has never been a show of hers without a “technical difficulty,” and as she tried to explain to the Coachella crowd, she said, “Don’t blame me because it’s not my fault! Well, it’s partially my fault, but it’s not entirely my fault.” In the “classic Grimes fashion,” the musician added that her songs had been set to a double tempo and had to do “a lot of internal math” to try to get it sorted to play for the patiently waiting crowd.

On social media, however, fans were making fun of her meltdown at the technical difficulties, with users pointing out that this isn’t the first time Grimes has done this at her concerts. Meanwhile, one fan said, “This could be the worst performance in the history of Coachella.” She took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a formal apology to fans. Adding that she “admittedly am not in the best mood atm,” Grimes said her set next week “will be flawless.”
Besides the mishaps, there were plenty of awe-inspiring, wild moments from Coachella’s first weekend.
