NY Giants: With 1 Week Left Until The Draft, Here’s What We Know About The QB Situation
By the end of next week, we will finally have the answers that have caused much debate over the past few months. As we head into the draft, here is what we know about the New York Giants quarterback situation.
Daniel Jones made an appearance this week at the team’s OTA’s. On April 15, his press conference resulted in a lot of material for outlets to pick up on. Most of it was around how awkward the interactions and expressions were. Nonetheless, Jones briefly mentioned his major knee injury rehab and the progress he was making to return as the team’s number one QB.
Now, let’s be clear, we can poke fun at Jones’ delivery and expressions from low-res clips from a press conference, but his health is what matters and dictates the future. However, maybe there is something to be said about his body language. Does Jones know something we don’t?
Though he has been often injured since being drafted sixth overall in 2019, Jones has carried himself with much class and professionalism. This is a results business of course, and we know the new Giants regime consisting of Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll (who did not draft Jones) have to be concerned with the Giants’ future above all else.
Here’s What We Do Know About The Giants Quarterback Situation
Yesterday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN provided us with the following tips:
“Albert Breer told us the Giants have inquired about trading up. Might need to get up to pick 4 or 5 to land a top QB.” And “Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll have done extensive work on the draft’s top QBs, including private workouts w/some of the top prospects.” Finally, “Ownership has given them the blessing to draft a QB, if they so desire. — There are four QBs that will be drafted in the top 10. Possible six in first round.”
Raanan is the dedicated ESPN NFL Nation reporter covering the New York Giants. Therefore, he is glued to this subject at all times and listens to all verified angles.
At this point of the offseason, there have been hundreds of mock drafts. Most of them have the Giants taking a receiver or quarterback with their sixth pick. Much of the latest information we have leads us to believe that management is very intrigued by this year’s quarterback class.
Last year, they were not. In fact, they rewarded Jones with a $40 million contract in 2023. A blown-out knee, following neck injuries combined with the likes of sixth potential first-round quarterbacks entered in the draft, has understandably changed the mindset of the organization from just one year ago.
Regardless of the decision the team makes, Giants fans should feel good about the fact that Schoen and Daboll have put so much effort into this evaluation process. This is a pivotal point in the direction of the franchise with major decisions coming in just few more days.
