Taylor Swift Fans Slam Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Inappropriate Lyrics’
Sabrina Carpenter attends the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year Honoring Jon Bon Jovi during the 66th GRAMMY Awards on February 02, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.
Taylor Swift’s fans from the Land Down Under are not having it with her opener’s racy lyrics. Swifties attending the pop icon’s Australian leg of her Eras tour have expressed their shock following Sabrina Carpenter’s performance. Carpenter, who is ten years younger than Swift, performed her popular 2022 track, “Nonsense,” during every set. While in Australia, Carpenter changed up the outro lines, singing something fans thought was highly inappropriate for the younger fans.
The original outro of the song goes: “This song catchier than chickenpox is, I bet your house is where my other sock is, woke up this morning and thought I’d write a pop hit. How quickly can you take your clothes off. Pop quiz.” However, during one of the Melbourne shows, she sang: “I don’t say ‘hello’ I say ‘g’day mate.’ I don’t make a bevvy, I’m a lightweight. Melbourne, I just came, I saw, and I ate.” She also included the line: “Broke up cause the size was underwhelming. Tried to give him pointers, wasn’t helping, maybe I just need a boy from Melbourne.” Taking things up a notch in Sydney, Carpenter then changed the lyrics to: “When you go down under, do you miss me? He’s so big I felt it in my kidney, screamed so loud they heard it here in Sydney!” Another line she sang for the Aussie fans was: “I can’t believe a plane can fly this far. I met the cutest Aussie at the bar. He said, ‘Are you from here?’ I said, ‘Naur.'”
It isn’t new for Carpenter to change her lyrics to raunchier ones. In November, while in Brazil, she changed the lyrics to: “Boy come over this is not a drill. He said get on top, I said, ‘I will’. Then he made me come… to Brazil.” Swift seems completely unbothered or unaware of the criticisms on social media, saying Carpenter is the “coolest possible opening act” on the Eras Tour. Swift’s next stops are in Singapore, taking Carpenter along with her.
Some fans didn’t find Carpenter’s outro change-ups to be charming. One person commented: “disgusting considering there’s children there.” Another stated: “That’s so cringe [skull emoji].” A third wrote: “Perfect for the 10 yr olds in the audience.” One person wondered: “there’s children at these shows why would she say that…” Another added, “Oh dear. There are children there lord have mercy. Spicy is one thing saying he’s so big I felt it in my kidney is inappropriate.”
The 5 Most Anticipated, Highest-Priced Concert Tours of 2024
As we kick off 2024, many of our favorite musicians are planning to hit the road once again. Some are continuing their tours from last year, expanding dates in cities that have sold out and filling up stadiums for their ever-devoted fans. Gametime has released new data highlighting the most anticipated concert tours of the year based on average ticket price — and some of the numbers are astounding. It is no surprise that the highest-priced tours belong to Taylor Swift and Adele, as we’ve covered their past ticket prices being thousands of dollars.
Swift’s Eras Tour shows last three-and-a-half hours as she covers all aspects of her career, from country to pop to indie. With her two “surprise songs” each night, fans are always eager to find out what songs she’ll choose for that segment. On top of that, her timing is impeccable for fans “itching for a post-pandemic live music immersive experience.” Another factor is how much Swifties appreciate Taylor’s dedication to her craft: writing all her songs and reclaiming ownership of all of her music by re-recording her discography. Fans have also been buying and streaming the new versions of her old songs and the bonus tracks on her re-recorded versions of her albums. Her tour is expected to pass $1 billion in sales by this March and if that happens, the singer-songwriter will make history.
Then there’s Adele, whose Las Vegas residency, Weekends With Adele has reached the finale. With 32 dates, the English singer-songwriter will be at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace from January to June. Known for spending time chatting with her fans and making her way down to the audience, the candid moments during Adele’s residency has become well-documented on social media, showing the fun times fans have to see her.
Take a look below at which five music artists have the hottest concert tickets of 2024 so far, based on the prices of their tickets on Gametime.
