The Weeknd Set To Perform A Virtual Concert On TikTok
The Weeknd is teaming up with TikTok for a good cause. Per Variety, the singer will perform a show for a special augmented-reality, live-streamed concert featuring songs from his hit album After Hours.
As the outlet explains, “The event — which TikTok says is its first-ever AR experience — will employ 3D renderings and picture-in-picture video to create the immersive livestream. As part of ‘The Weeknd Experience,’ viewers will be able to interact in real-time during the broadcast.”
The Weeknd Experience will raise funds for the Equal Justice Initiative supporting racial equality. Fans who want to donate can do so directly from the TikTok app before and during the virtual concert. They can also buy The Weeknd Experience merch, and proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative. TikTok will then match any funds raised “up to a generous amount.”
The Weeknd’s virtual-concert livestream will air on TikTok Friday, Aug. 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
