A Whitney Houston Biopic From Clive Davis Is Happening
Clive Davis is teaming up with Houston Estates and Anthony McCarten – the writer behind Bohemian Rhapsody – to create a Whitney Houston biopic. I Wanna Dance With Somebody‘s creative team will also include Stella Meghie, who directed the Issa Rae romance The Photograph. Pat Houston, Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law and former manager, will also be one of the producers of the movie on behalf of the Houston Estate.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the backing of the estate is tremendous because it means that the project will be able to utilize Houston’s music catalog. They add, though, that the movie does not yet have distribution.
Clive Davis will also have a documentary, Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives, that will stream on Netflix beginning in September. According to The Art Desk, the film will be based on one of Clive’s memoirs. It will explore his career in the industry and his journey with artists such as Whitney Houston, Santana, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, and Luther Vandross.
