Harry Styles Would Do A One Direction Reunion For The ‘Right Reasons’
Never say never. That’s how Harry Styles feels about a possible One Direction reunion. For the upcoming Rolling Stone cover story, Styles talked about the circumstances that would make him say “yes” to rejoining 1D.
“I don’t think I’d ever say I’d never do it again, because I don’t feel that way,” Styles told Rolling Stone when asked if One Direction is over. “If there’s a time when we all really want to do it, that’s the only time for us to do it, because I don’t think it should be about anything else other than the fact that we’re all like, ‘Hey, this was really fun. We should do this again.'”
For now, though, Styles is happy doing his solo thing. “I enjoy making music this way too much to see myself doing a full switch, to go back and do that again,” said Styles, who is currently putting the finishing touches on his second solo album, HS2. “Because I also think if we went back to doing things the same way, it wouldn’t be the same, anyway.”
That being said, Styles said there is no bad blood between him and the other members of One Direction: Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, who left the boy band in 2015. They aren’t best friends either, but they are the only other guys who know what it was like to be in One Direction. And that counts for something.
“We’re always going to have that, even if we’re not the closest,” he said. “And the fact is, just because you’re in a band with someone doesn’t mean you have to be best friends.” For Styles, “there’s always a mutual respect for each other — we did this really cool thing together, and we’ll always have that. It’s too important to me to ever be like, ‘Oh, that’s done.’”
When it comes to a reunion, Styles’ parting note was: “If it happens, it will happen for the right reasons.” Cross your fingers, the five guys come up with those reasons sooner, rather than later.
