An investigation into Liam Payne’s death has led to the detainment of three of Payne’s friends. Following the fall from his hotel balcony that led to his death, officials began investigating the incident to determine what happened.
One month after the One Direction alum fell from the third balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, authorities have detained three people of interest. “Police detained two hotel workers accused of supplying the drugs,” David Muir confirmed on ABC World News Tonight. The other detained was a friend who also had their home searched as well.
Investigation Into Liam Payne’s Death Continues
Following his death, a preliminary toxicology showed that he had a mixture of drugs within his system. Officials reported a mixture of methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA, alcohol, benzodiazepine, and crack. The concoction then led officials to determine where Payne may have gotten the drugs that contributed to his unexpected death.
The official toxicology report is still pending, but officials determined his cause of death was polytraumism, meaning multiple traumatic injuries internally and externally. Authorities have also assumed that he possibly was unconscious during the time of his fall as they continue to investigate what led to his death.
Lyle was part of the boy band sensation, One Direction, along with Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, and Niall Horan. Following the news of his death, the group released a joint statement. “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam. Louis, Zayn, Niall, and Harry.”
Payne was 31 years old at the time of his death and it was known that he had been struggling with his sobriety in the past. As officials continue to investigate, we will wait for further details.
