Stevie Nicks: Her Advice For Younger Female Singers
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Stevie Nicks shared some advice for younger women who are artists. Actually, it’s advice that many of us, female or male, famous or not, could benefit from. The interviewer asked her if she can go online on her iPhone. Nicks said that it wasn’t connected, “It’s just a camera.”
The interviewer responded that she was envious; of course, anyone can delete social media apps from their phone and go online less often. But Stevie related a conversation that gave some perspective to the downside of being online too much. “About ten years ago, Katy Perry was talking to me about the internet armies of all the girl singers, and how cruel and rancid they were. I said, ‘Well, I wouldn’t know because I’m not on the internet.’ She said, ‘So, who are your rivals?’ I said, ‘Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet and you won’t have rivals either.'”
Nicks also discussed Chappell Roan, referencing her struggles with her fame. She mentioned that it was a good thing that Roan protected her health by canceling a few shows.
Another fun moment of the lengthy interview was when she pointed out that she has a friendship bracelet from Taylor Swift that she hasn’t taken off for almost a year.
Nicks has been busy lately; she recently released a new song, “The Lighthouse,” which she performed on Saturday Night Live. Watch the performance below.
Nicks mentioned that she is working on a new album and plans to tour next summer. Currently, she just has one show scheduled: a concert with Billy Joel at Detroit’s Ford Field on March 29, 2025. She stressed that her band, Fleetwood Mac, is done for good following the death of singer/keyboardist Christine McVie, and that she doesn’t want to work with her ex-bandmate and ex-boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham again. Elsewhere in the interview, she also mentioned that she never used to vote, but that she is voting in this presidential election for Kamala Harris.
