Dr. Dre ‘Serious’ About Competing In Archery At 2028 Games
We saw a lot of firsts at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, from an Australian professor entering a breaking competition to Snoop Dogg swimming alongside Michael Phelps. Now, Dr. Dre is setting his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming to join Team USA’s archery team.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dre talked about his archery ambitions, which began in junior high. “I’m trying to try out for the Olympics in 2028… Archery. I’m dead a– serious,” he said, responding to skepticism from the interviewer. “I actually started playing around with archery in junior high. I stopped for a while and my son bought me a set-up. I don’t know if it was for my birthday or Father’s Day or something like that, so I have it set up in my backyard. And I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet and I practice at 90 [feet].”
Dre continued, “Yeah, wouldn’t that be interesting to go, especially with it being here in L.A. and win the gold medal… I feel like I could do anything.”
The rapper might actually make this happen. His social media offers glimpses of his fitness routines, showing his commitment to staying in shape. Despite a serious brain aneurysm in 2021 that required a lengthy hospitalization, he returned to the gym after fully recovering. This alone shows his determination.
On Sunday (Aug. 11), Dre performed with Snoop Dogg at the 2024 Paris Olympics’ Closing Ceremony, delivering a rendition of “The Next Episode.” Dre shared that he feels uneasy performing without Snoop. “I rarely do it,” he said. “I’ve done it with Kendrick and Eminem, and those are my brothers, but something about the synergy me and Snoop has is really interesting.”
Dre also shared his thoughts on the inaugural Olympics breakdancing competition, which won’t be featured in the 2028 Games. “I did not like that. It’s so many great breakdancers, I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that,” he said, seemingly referring to Australian breaker Raygun, who gained attention after scoring zero points. “It was funny, I got some laughs out of it, but what the f—? There are incredible breakdancers out right now. I don’t know how that happened.”
Additionally, Dre expressed enthusiasm about his upcoming album with Snoop Dogg, Missionary, calling it “some of the best music” he’s ever made. Comparing Missionary to Snoop’s 1993 debut Doggystyle, which he also produced, Dre noted, “It was much more fun, to be honest, because we were kids at that time. Snoop may have been 18 or 19 years old and I think I’m six years older than him, so we were kids at that time.”
