The Most Viral Moments from the Paris Olympics
Whether or not you’re been watching the 2024 Paris Olympics, chances are you’ve caught a few viral moments from the events so far. Now, I’m going to catch you up on the the most viral moments from the Olympics this year. I always love watching the games, and since I’m a summer girl, I have to say that I lean towards liking the summer Olympics more than the winter games.
Viral Moments from the Olympics
Gabriel Medina has one of the most viral moments from the Olympics this year and probably for years to come. The Brazilian surfer broke a record at the 2024 Olympics, and then, he also was the focus of a surfing photo that went totally viral. On July 29, Medina competed in Teahupo’o, a village in the French Polynesian Island of Tahiti, along with the rest of the athletes. After his ride, he was super confident and predicted his score by holding up 10 fingers while be came out of a gigantic wave. His score was close to a 10, and he got a 9.90, which the Olympics experts at NBC News say is the highest single-wave score in the sport’s Olympic history. Of course, surfing first became part of the Olympic Games in 2020, so there isn’t a ton of history attached to that record, but it’s still very impressive and a reason to be proud. Then, after leaving the barrel and traveling near the lip of the wave, Medina flew off his board and pointed his finger towards the sky. Photographer Jerome Brouillet caught the viral moment, which you can see below.
Another viral moment came when the U.S. women’s gymnastics team, headed up by Simone Biles, won a gold medal during the team final. The team was smiling from ear-to-ear, and they took the platform with a huge U.S. flag in the air. I really enjoyed seeing this team celebrate and carry the American Flag around the gymnastics floor. Check out a photo of this viral moment below. It’s also been cute to see Biles’ husband, Chicago Bears player Jonathan Owens, in the crowd cheering her on.
Biles, of course, is making history this year. With the women’s individual all-around gold medal, she became the only U.S. gymnast to win six Olympic gold medals. Then, after she won the gold for her individual performance, Biles surpassed Shannon Miller’s longtime record of seven Olympic medals. I’m so proud of Biles and think she’s a true testament to what it means to be a winner. She was confident enough to show insecurity when she gracefully bowed out of the Tokyo Olympics, and now, she’s back and stronger than ever. Anyone who thinks otherwise has some serious soul-searching to do. Reach out to me with your favorite moments from the Olympics.
