‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel Is Reportedly In The Works
Every time I look up there’s another remake, reboot, or sequel to a movie that nobody asked for. And here we go again. According to multiple reports, The Devil Wears Prada writer Aline Brosh McKenna is reportedly working on the sequel to the 2006 movie.
Deadline reported that Wendy Finerman, producer of the original film, is set to develop and produce the follow-up. They also mentioned that the original director David Frankel is discussing a return.
Sources have confirmed to the outlet that Brosh has been tapped to script a sequel in early development at Disney. Fox 2000 Pictures, which was the studio behind the original film, is now owned by Disney through its acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019.
There have been no reports on whether Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Adrian Grenier are set to return to the sequel.
Fans have speculated whether “that’s all” for Miranda, Andy, and Emily. The three actors have kept the film on the public’s mind, most recently reuniting onstage at February’s SAG Awards. Hathaway and Blunt also sat down to reminisce about making the movie for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, revisiting some of the film’s most iconic moments and dishing about working with Streep. Hathaway and Blunt also went head-to-head in an epic episode of Lip Sync Battle.
According to Variety, the storyline reportedly follows Miranda Priestly, previously played by Streep, as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.
News of a Devil Wears Prada sequel comes as the stage musical version. It features Vanessa Williams donning Miranda Priestly’s trademark dark sunglasses. It began previews in advance of an October opening on London’s West End. The production features original music by Elton John, direction and choreography by three-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell and lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub.
The Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 book, tells the story of a young woman who has a tough time working at a fashion magazine. Lauren Weisberger wrote the book after working as an assistant for Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue. The movie was very popular, making $326.7 million around the world. Meryl Streep won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy and was nominated for an Academy Award. The movie’s costume designer, Patricia Field, was also nominated for an Oscar.
