Lorde Teases New Album With Spit
Lorde sure has a unique way of making announcements. The New Zealand musician posted a cryptic message to her Instagram account for an upcoming album.
Lorde Teases New Album
With her feed cleared and her profile photo changed, the signs of new music coming continue in the details of her latest post on Tuesday (June 4). “Use the existing tools wherever possible,” the 27-year-old “Liability” singer wrote in her caption. With a bunch of symbols that include “L4” in between her text, Lorde adds, “If the tools do not exist you are spiritually obliged to create them.”
In the slideshow of photos, a dark-haired Lorde is peering over a stone balcony. In the second slide, she is seen hanging spit from her mouth to drop from the balcony as she pulls her hair back. Holding a pill in her hand in the third slide, it reads: “SPIT.”
Fans React To Spit and L4 Teaser
Fans took the cryptic caption and photos and ran with it. Reacting to the supposed album announcement, one person commented, “L4 IS A DOUBLE ALBUM CONFIRMED GUYS.” Added another, “L4 CONFIRMED.” Another guessed, “L4 on 27th? 👀 currently trying not to lose my mind haha hey.” One fan asked, “so l4 or lead single is called spit….. question mark.”
More fans gave their best interpretations of Lorde’s spit post and wrote things like, “THE ALBUM IS COMING NEXT WEEK CONFIRMED OMG YOU GUYS FINALLY !!!!!” One person said, “So L4 is black and spiritual.” Another user excitedly commented, “ALBUM OF THE YEAR INCOMINGGGG.”
Others expressed their confusion but shared their support nonetheless. “I don’t get it but love you, you look hot,” wrote a fan. One person simply said, “yes girl spit!!!” Another commented, “I can’t wait to see what you’re cooking to us! Love u, queen [flame emoji, sobbing emoji, black heart emoji]. My favorite Scorpio ever!”
Lorde’s usage of “L4” alludes that her fourth studio album is coming. Her 2013 debut studio album, Pure Heroine, went four years before releasing Melodrama. In 2021, the artist released Solar Power.
She teased a couple of new songs during a headlining gig at the Boardmasters Festival in the UK last summer, with “Silver Moon” and “Invisible Ink.” Responding to fans getting hyped up about what seemed like new songs from L4, Lorde wrote at the time, “We’re not CLOSE close you guys… i’m just getting so hype n needed to let u know .. start ur excitement on a low flame and bring it up to a gentle simmer .. we building stamina for this chapter.”
The Grammy winner added further clarification, responding to a fan: “Hahaha I’m serious literally just decided to set these free from my laptop …. but they’re not bad eh … beautiful and fun for fests i thought.”
