Justin Timberlake Releases New Song and Music Video
Justin Timberlake has dropped his new single and video for “Selfish,” prior to the release of his first album in five years, Everything I Thought It Was. Premiering at a special concert in Timberlake’s hometown of Memphis, Tennessee last week, the ballad shows an older Timberlake, now 42, with white hairs in his beard. As he gets increasingly frustrated in the video, he sings of how he gets jealous, “I want every bit of you, guess I’m selfish.”
He becomes attracted to a small illuminated door and finds himself in a miniature, long hallway with a red telephone at the end of it. When he finally reaches it, he’s transported back to the set, smashing the miniature set with his foot. He then sees flashbacks from his FutureSex/LoveSounds era. Storming out to an actual storm, JT centers himself and is next on stage, wearing a suit and showing off his dance skills. With his hands in his pockets at first, he explodes into even more complex choreography when he frees his hands.

One fan commented on the musician’s Instagram post: “Life always gets better when JT starts a new Era. This song is just everything I needed. I’m so proud to be a fan of yours I can’t even express how happy you make me.” Another fan wrote: “One of the best portrayals of anxiety I’ve seen. Can’t stop watching!” While another raved, “Hands down fave video. Best first single since LILY. Wow. Bravooooo.” One fan wished JT’s wife made a cameo, writing: “The only thing that would’ve made this video better is if @jessicabiel had been in the trailer at the end and he opened the door to her!!!! [crying emoji] I wanted her to be in it so bad!!!”

ETITW marks Timberlake’s sixth album and the first in six years. His last project was reuniting with *NSYNC to release “Better Place” for the Trolls Band Together soundtrack back in September, marking the group’s first musical release since 2002. Prior to that, he reunited with Timbaland in April after 20 years. Timbaland previously stated that the sound of the new album will be like 2006’s FutureSex/LoveSounds. “It’s fun Justin,” he said. “But nothing too heavy, just giving you what you expect from us.”
