On this day in 1979, Elton John started a tour of Russia. He played the first of eight concerts making him the first Western star ever to do so.
In 1988, Prince scored his first UK number 1 album with ‘Lovesexy.’ The album cover caused quit some controversy upon its release due to the artist being depicted in the nude. Record stores refused to stock it or wrapped the album so the cover could not be seen.
In 2006, Madonna became the highest grossing female artist as her Confessions Tour made over $260 million. The first 3 nights of the tour sold out at The Los Angeles Forum in California.
In 2011, Adele went to number 1 on the US singles chart with ‘Rolling In The Deep’. The song was taken from her second studio album, 21. The music video to the song went on to be nominated for seven MTV Video Music Awards. ‘Rolling in the Deep’ was also the Billboard Year End Hot 100 Number One Single of 2011. In 2012, ‘Rolling in the Deep’ received three Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Short Form Music Video.
