Physical Sales Outsold Digital For First Time Since 2011
It’s the wax, maaaaaaaaaan.
According to a report from The Recording Industry Association of America, physical copies of sales outsold digital downloads in 2017 in the U.S. – but why?
We’re guessing it’s Vinyl. And we guessed right.
RIAA shared that “Vinyl continues to be a bright spot among physical formats,” and considering that CD sales have dropped 6% while vinyl has increased by 10%, it’s interesting to note the change in the tide.
With outlets like Best Buy and Target considering the idea of not carrying CDs anymore, it’s hard to say what direction things are going, but if it’s going the way of the wax, then hopefully many people will start shopping local at record stores, rather than ordering online in most cases.
There is something truly awesome about walking through a record store to “see what they have” and if it’s something that draws you in.
