Spooky Season is upon us, so it is time to start thinking about Halloween costumes!
If you have kids, then you know this time of year they start to get crazy. Especially little kids. It took me a while to figure it out. I thought, is it the change in temperature? Do they sense going “back to school” even though they’re too young to have ever gone to school? Then, it dawned on me. It’s Spooky Season. Everyone gets a little crazy leading up to Halloween. There is definitely something in the air.
We were all kids once. Maybe you still get giddy with anticipation of ghosts and goblins. I know I do. I love to have the excuse to get dressed up in Halloween costumes as someone or something other than myself. And, if you are a school-aged kid, Halloween falls at exactly the right time. It gives you enough time to get settled into the school year, yet it is early enough that you can use it to reinvent yourself. What you go as for Halloween, can make or break your reputation. Do you want to be known as the classmate who slayed with his or her awesome costume? Or as the girl who wore her grandmother’s old-lady wig and crocheted shawl as Betsy Ross? Honestly, I’ll never get over that one. My mother hates Halloween and my reputation suffered greatly for it.
This year, pop culture will play a big role in what Halloween costumes you see at your door. There was the Super Mario movie and Barbie. I don’t think we will see too many children dressed as Oppenheimer. Taylor Swift took the nation by storm with her Eras Tour and speculation on her love life. The tween boys I know love anything cool that glows and there are even a few super cute ideas for the wee little ones this Halloween.
Happy Haunting!
