It’s that time of year again when school supplies have hit the store shelves and the kids are in need of doing some back-to-school shopping. Yet, have you ever thought about where school funding is distributed most equitably in the state of New Jersey?
WalletHub‘s latest report includes the most and least equitable school districts in New Jersey for 2022. The personal finance website revealed that New Jersey has the seventh least equitable school districts overall in the United States.
“If we make sure that every school district has equitable funding, students in less affluent communities will have a level playing field with students in wealthy districts. As a result, their graduation rates will increase, as will their likelihood to pursue higher education and earn larger incomes,” said Jill Gonzalez, WalletHub analyst in a press release. “College graduates have $154 – $1,115 higher median weekly earnings than people with a high school diploma and no college experience, depending on the degree.”
WalletHub first scored a total of 12,875 school districts throughout the country and then proceeded to score 538 districts in New Jersey. The scoring was based on the average household income and expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools per pupil.
