Polar Bear Plunge in Wildwood, NJ is Tomorrow, January 13th
The Polar Bear Plunge at Wildwood is tomorrow, Saturday, January 13. It’s presented by Law Enforcement Torch Run. The plunge benefits thousands of Special Olympics New Jersey athletes. Each year around 1,000 dedicated fundraising plungers will take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean to officially kick off the 2024 plunge season. When and Where The plunge will place on the beach outside the Wildwoods Convention Center beginning at 1 pm. Registration begins at 10 am. The Forecast The weather around plunge time is anticipated to be cloudy and windy with an air temperature in the high 40s and water temperatures predicted to be in the low 40s. This is perfect plunge weather, not too warm and not too cold, just right. Special Olympics New Jersey For over 55 years, Special Olympics New Jersey has provided year-round sports training and athletic competition in 24 Olympic-type sports. This is for thousands of children and adults with intellectual disabilities, completely free of charge. Through the joy and power of sports, athletes are provided opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. This year's plunge comes a short week after the kickoff to one of the marquee events of the Special Olympics New Jersey calendar year, the Winter Games. There are thousands of athletes who will also be competing in the 2024 Spring Games which returns to Wildwood March 23-24, 2024. The Law Enforcement Torch Run The sponsor for the plunge, The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is part of a state-wide campaign. It’s coordinated and managed by all divisions of Law Enforcement officers and officials to raise dollars and awareness for Special Olympics New Jersey. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey has been recognized for many years as one of the top grassroots fundraising organizations for Special Olympics worldwide.
