‘Bachelor’ Creator, Mike Fleiss, and Wife File for Divorce
In today’s irony news, Mike Fleiss, creator of The Bachelor, is getting divorced from his wife Laura Fleiss — and the divorce is ugly.
His estranged wife, Laura Fleiss, has not only filed for divorce, but she was also a granted a temporary restraining order. She has accused her husband of being verbally, physically, and emotionally abusive towards her. E! News reports that court documents were filed Tuesday. Laura discloses that “Her husband had been verbally abusive toward her and became ‘enraged’ in the recent weeks over the fact that she is pregnant with their second child.” Their first child, Ben, is four years old.
The news outlet also reports that Mike Fleiss demanded that his wife either have an abortion or return to her hometown of Wisconsin. Fleiss explains in the court papers that her husband “grabbed my body, forcibly pinned me up against the way and held me there.” Fleiss also adds, “I am afraid of Mike. I am afraid he will continue to act erratically towards me, verbally and physically in the presence of Ben. I have been hiding in a hotel for the past several days with Ben, and want to be able to return home without fear for myself, my son and my unborn child.”
She explains that in the past, Mike has made derogatory and demeaning comments to her as a way of asserting his control over her. Some things she has accused her husband of calling her are “fat,” “lazy,” and “incapable.” In addition to these new abuse charges, Laura explains that while out to dinner during their anniversary dinner in 2018, she saw flirtatious message between her husband and a female friend.
Mike’s attorney recently filed a response declaration. In this declaration, Mike denies harming his wife and claims that she has been the aggressor. He also claims that they have been seeing a marriage counselor since the beginning of the year. Mike adds that the only reason he didn’t want his wife pregnant was because of a previously difficult pregnancy.
Temporary legal and physical custody had been granted to Laura, which includes no visitation for Mike. The temporary restraining order will be in effect until the August 6 court date.
