Taylor Tomlinson To Replace James Corden’s Late-Night Slot

James Corden’s late-night talk show time slot has found a replacement. Comedian Taylor Tomlinson, who is known for her Netflix specials Look At You and Quarter-Life Crisis, will be hosting the upcoming CBS late-night show titled After Midnight. During The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday (November 2), host Stephen Colbert read CBS’s announcement of the series that will take over the 12:37 am timeslot after his show.
Colbert added that the new show’s name is inspired by Comedy Central’s @midnight, which ran from 2013 to 2017. Additionally, Funny or Die and Colbert will be producing it. The comedy video website and film/television production company was founded by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Mark Kvamme, and Chris Henchy in 2007. Colbert joked that he will be producing After Midnight right after his show “If I’m able to stay awake that long!” Prior to announcing Tomlinson, who is celebrating her 30th birthday this weekend, as host, he listed the qualifications that are needed to fill in the slot. “We need someone who is fun, likable, young, in touch with online trends, and available every night of the week.”
“I got a job,” Tomlinson, 29, wrote Wednesday night on Instagram, sharing the moment Colbert told her she got the job over a Zoom call. The comedian is currently on her The Have It All national tour, which ends later this month.
As we previously reported, Corden announced in April 2022 that he would be leaving the show this year after hosting since 2015. He introduced signature segments “Carpool Karaoke,” “Drop the Mic,” and “Crosswalk Musical” on the show, the first two of which spawned their own standalone series on Apple and TBS. Corden was the fourth host of The Late Late Show, following Tom Snyder, Craig Kilborn, and Craig Ferguson. Only Ferguson has held the job longer at nine years.
After Midnight is scheduled to premiere in early 2024.

On the final segment featuring a longtime friend of host James Corden, Adele asked him to dish on his favorite past moments and hardships.
Corden admitted that it was really hard to book celebrities to take part in the series. “No one would do it,” he said. “Everyone on planet Earth said ‘no.'” And when he finally got Mariah Carey on board, she only agreed to be on the segment — not to sing. This was a crucial part of the series, of course, so Corden did the best he could do: try to bait her into singing. As 1995’s “Always Be My Baby” begins playing in the car, Mariah immediately knew what he was up to.
Playing coy, Corden said with a huge grin, “It’s a new car, so I don’t know how to change the radio station.” The diva hummed along nonchalantly at first, even telling the television host that she wasn’t going to sing. “I’m not singing today, I was up all night,” she said at the time. Then all of a sudden, Carey began to sing along to the song. Sixty episodes later, the Carpool Karaoke series became a success. As Adele described in the final segment, “there’s been some bloody brilliant ones and a few s— ones, obviously.”
