Christina Ricci Refused To Do Sex Scene, Threatened With A Lawsuit
Christina Ricci is glad that the younger generation of actors don’t have to “go through the things” she had to when as a young actress. She discussed how things have changed during an appearance on The View on Wednesday (March 15).
Commenting on the closeness of her fellow Yellowjackets co-stars, Ricci wondered why she never had that when she was younger. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg interjects, “‘Cause you were always with adults. There weren’t a whole lot of the kids.” Ricci said “[when] you’re younger, I think there’s so many more insecurities. So if you are with your peers, you’re like, bristly and competitive, or weird.”
Ricci adds that society and media coverage has changed so much. Now, she says that “no one is really allowed to call you names because you’re overweight, or you don’t look so good” — in the headlines, at least.
Have Things Changed?
Co-host Sara Haines asked the Yellowjackets star, who has been acting for three decades: “How different is it do you think, for this cast, these younger versions, as compared to when you were in that phase?”
43-year-old Ricci, whose acting career began at nine years old when she starred in Mermaids (1990), responded, “It’s really great. Us older ladies talk about it all the time. It’s amazing to see that they don’t have to necessarily go through the things that we had to go through. They’re able to say, ‘I don’t want to do this sex scene,’ ‘I’m not going to be naked.'”
She continued, “They can set boundaries for themselves that we were never allowed to do. Someone threatened to sue me once because I didn’t want to do this sex scene in a certain way. So, it’s just really changed and it’s great to see.” Now, Ricci is happy that young actors now have the choice to do what they’re comfortable with. When the control is taken away, Ricci says, “It makes you never want to do it.”

She’s Mentioned The Lawsuit Before
This isn’t the first time Ricci has mentioned the lawsuit. Last June, in an Actors on Actors conversation with Sydney Sweeney for Variety, Ricci said, “I remember once on a movie saying I wasn’t comfortable with something and they threatened to sue me if I didn’t do it. That would never happen now.”
The Euphoria star, 25, responded, “What? Oh my God, I’m so sorry.” Ricci replied, “It was fine. I didn’t do it anyway. And they didn’t sue me.”
Ricci stars in Yellowjackets, with season 2 premiering March 24 on Showtime.
