Rihanna Will Perform ‘Lift Me Up’ At 2023 Oscars
Right off the heels of her Super Bowl Halftime performance, Rihanna has been billed to perform “Lift Me Up” at the 2023 Oscars.
“Lift Me Up” was co-written by Rihanna, Tems, Ludwig Göransson, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler. The record is nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars. This is Rihanna’s first Academy Award nomination.
Rihanna joins Lady Gaga and Bloodpop with their nomination for “Hold My Hand” which was written for Top Gun: Maverick. Other songs that are nominated in the category are: “Applause” by Sofia Carson from Tell It Like a Woman, Rahul Sipligunj, Kaala Bhairava, and M.M. Keeravani’s “Naatu Naatu” (RRR) and Son Lux featuring Mitski and David Byrne’s “This Is a Life” (Everything Everywhere All at Once).
The “Diamonds” singer has had a momentous 2023 so far, starting with the Super Bowl Halftime show. During the show, she revealed that she was pregnant with her second child with boyfriend A$AP Rocky.
Wakanda Forever is up for four other Oscars this year including: Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Angela Bassett is nominated for Best Supporting Actress; that is the first-ever acting nomination for a Marvel film. She previously received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Tina Turner in 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do With It?
The Academy Awards takes place on Sunday, March 12, 2023, and will be broadcast live on ABC. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the show at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
