Brendan Fraser Cast in ‘Batgirl’ as Pyro Villain Firefly
Brendan Fraser is headed to Gotham City, set to play the villain in DC’s Batgirl as the pryo Firefly, joining In The Heights‘ Leslie Grace.
Per Deadline, Batgirl is set to debut on HBO Max sometime next year and centers on Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), the daughter of Gotham police commissioner Jim Gordon. Barbara Gordon made her first live-action appearance in Adam West’s Batman TV series, where she was portrayed by Yvonne Craig. Later, Alicia Silverstone brought Barbara to the silver screen for the first time in Joel Schumacher’s 1997 Batman & Robin movie, but that is the only instance when the character appeared in a film.
J.K. Simmons returns as Jim Gordon in the film after portraying him in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Jacob Scipio also recently joined the cast, with Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
This isn’t Fraser’s first time in the DCEU, as he plays Robotman in TV series Doom Patrol, now going on four seasons. If you haven’t heard of Doom Patrol, it centers around a team of traumatized and downtrodden superheroes, each of whom has suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. The members of the team have found their purpose through The Chief and have come together to investigate some of the world’s weirdest phenomena. After The Chief mysteriously disappears, the reluctant heroes find themselves called to action by Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission that they cannot refuse.

As per a new tweet by The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit, Batgirl is seemingly looking to add a new love interest for Barbara Gordon. The character, whose identity remains undisclosed, will presumably be the son of an evil gangster but during the course of the film, he will become romantically attached to Barbara.
Sylvester Stallone first had the offer for the part but things just didn't work out. Another key role in BATGIRL: the son of the gangster/villain, who becomes romantically linked to...well, you can take it from there. https://t.co/V4rpiZBaCV
