Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon Celebrates His Birthday and Upcoming HOF Induction
It’s been quite a year for Simon Le Bon and Duran Duran. they celebrated their 40th anniversary and released “Future Past,” their latest album, and Magic 98.3 gave away tickets when their tour brought them to Madison Square Garden over the summer. Simon just celebrated his 64th birthday last week, and he couldn’t be a more enjoyable guest when he spoke with Joel and Maryann in the Spring. (Interview below)
He and the band also celebrated the annual Duran Duran Appreciation Day. Why is that? In 2003, the now-defunct YM Magazine declared August 10th Duran Duran Appreciation day, but many say it was initiated by a Michigan disc jockey named M. Kennedy who started it to be celebrated on his birthday. Other sources say it takes place on August 10 because it was on that date in 1985 when Duran Duran lead singer Simon Le Bon nearly lost his life in a boating accident.
Duran Duran was founded in 1978, rose to fame in the early ’80s and this week will join Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon as inductees at the 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony this Saturday, November 5th at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
