The fashion world has lost an icon in André Leon Talley. The 73-year-old had served as creative director and editor-at-large at U.S. Vogue throughout the 80s and 90s.
Talley worked closely with Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour and served as Editor-At-Large for Vogue until 2013. He brought diversity to the runway, always pushing for Black voices among designers and models.
Immediately recognizable at any event, Talley often wore robes and caftans. He was a major figure in the LGBTQ+ community and although he never discussed his sexual preference he considered himself, “fluid.”
Talley was a best-selling author and advised the Obamas on fashion. He contributed to Women’s Wear Daily, W, and the New York Times. Talley’s death was confirmed via his official Instagram page.
