Some routes now cost an extra $200+ or more in fees on top of the miles required. These new charges kicked in during April 2026 under the Blue Sky partnership linking the two carriers.
A one-way ticket from London to Newark? That'll run you an extra $265.60 in fees on top of your miles. Other international routes also saw over $200 tacked on when booking with TrueBlue miles.
The Blue Sky partnership launched earlier in 2026. Members who want to redeem miles for international flights must now pay these fees.
Travel blogger Ben Schlappig broke the news about the new surcharges. "JetBlue TrueBlue has just added carrier-imposed surcharges for travel on United," said Schlappig, according to Newark Today.
This shift reveals how airlines tinker with partnerships and loyalty program rules. Travelers might face steeper out-of-pocket costs when they redeem miles. The added fees chip away at what loyalty programs offer. Members will need to think hard about whether redeeming miles through this partnership makes sense.
Airlines will probably keep tweaking loyalty program rules and partnership agreements in ways that hit consumers' wallets. These changes show how tangled airline loyalty programs and partnerships have become.
