The 23rd Annual Bob Beckert Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Kids Dash will take place Sunday, June 7, at Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren. Race day registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The Kids Dash begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 5K road race at 10 a.m.
According to Patch, this race honors Robert "Bob" Beckert. It draws families, friends, and runners from Warren and nearby towns. The Bob Beckert Memorial Fund Committee organized the event to celebrate Beckert's life and his ties to Watchung and Warren.
Beckert passed away at 46. A Watchung Hills graduate, he earned Eagle Scout rank and ran on the 1974 New Jersey State Championship Cross Country Team. He was a husband, father to four children, and gave his time to help the community.
Young runners can participate in the Kids Dash, where everyone receives finisher ribbons. Top finishers in each age group — both male and female — will win prizes. All 5K participants get entered into a raffle. Bagels, donuts, fruit, and coffee will be available. Organizers said the day reflects Beckert's devotion to family and those around him.
Money raised goes to the Bob Beckert Memorial Fund, which has awarded more than $117,000 in scholarships to Watchung Hills Regional High School seniors. Youth organizations nearby have also received support.
Watchung Hills Regional High School sits at 108 Stirling Road in Warren. You can register online at run4rjb.com.
