Somerset County Reports Sharp Rise in Overnight Vehicle Burglaries
Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr. issued warnings about a sharp increase in car break-ins across several towns.

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr. issued warnings about a sharp increase in car break-ins across several towns. Reports have spiked.
Many incidents involve unlocked cars. Thieves strike during overnight hours and early mornings in neighborhoods and parking lots. They've stolen wallets, purses, jewelry, cash, and electronics.
"These incidents are occurring during overnight and early morning hours and are impacting neighborhoods and parking areas across multiple municipalities," McDonald said, according to Shore News Network.
The prosecutor's office is reminding residents to lock cars, even when parked in driveways or on residential streets. Officials want people to remove valuables from cars to prevent theft.
According to Patch.com, McDonald told residents "to be vigilant in protecting themselves and their property when it comes to motor vehicle burglaries."
Law enforcement wants the public to report suspicious activity to their local police department. Quick reporting can help prevent crimes and catch those responsible, according to the prosecutor's office.
Roman joined McDonald in encouraging residents to stay alert and work with investigators. The task force has been working with local law enforcement agencies to track the growing number of break-ins in recent weeks, coordinating efforts across jurisdictions to identify patterns and apprehend suspects before they strike again.
