Boy Scouts of America Troop 46 has kicked off its 9th yearly Christmas tree pickup and recycling service throughout multiple New Jersey towns. They collect real trees from houses in Martinsville, Bridgewater, Raritan, Branchburg, Warren, and Somerville.
Scouts gather trees on Saturdays during January. Dates are Jan. 3, 10, 17, and 24.
Cash from this effort helps cover scout adventures and activities outside. Anyone who owns a real tree can ask for pickup.
"We are very happy to serve the community and look forward to another wonderful year," according to the troop, per Patch.
Troop 46 runs out of Martinsville and helps the nearby area. This is the ninth year they've brought this service to families who live there.
People can book a pickup through different ways. Visit zeffy.com to make a donation request. Send an email to troop46tree@gmail.com.
Texts work too at 908-797-2745. Scouts will arrange collection times with homeowners during those four Saturday windows, making sure everyone gets what they need when they need it.
This effort gives families a way to dispose of holiday trees once the season wraps up. Trees that scouts collect get recycled through proper channels instead of sitting in landfills, where they waste space and resources.
Money from donations will support activities that build youth skills and camping adventures for Scouts and allow Scouts to join outdoor education programs and experiences that teach them new abilities throughout the year.
