Construction has started on the Bass Pro Shops store at Sayreville's $2.5 billion Riverton site. This marks a key step forward in New Jersey's most ambitious mixed-use project yet.

Drivers crossing the Driscoll Bridge now spot the rising steel skeleton of the store. Workers will finish the outer shell by fall, then Bass Pro Shops will take over to complete the interior work.

The site sits on prime waterfront space next to the Raritan River, under the watch of the Sayreville Economic & Redevelopment Agency. Their vision? Transform this spot into a must-visit destination through the Riverton project.

After getting approved in 2019, plans call for a mix of shops, dining spots, work spaces, places to stay, green areas, a boat dock, and 2,000 new homes. Right now, work teams focus on preparing the Gateway Services Area for upcoming structures.

This store will join Atlantic City as Bass Pro Shops' second spot in New Jersey. The outdoor store aims to pull in shoppers as Riverton's main retail attraction.

The Sayreville Economic & Redevelopment Agency shared news in August with NJ.com, "The steel frame of the long-awaited Bass Pro Shop is now visible to every car that passes over the Driscoll Bridge."

At $2.5 billion, Riverton stands as New Jersey's biggest mixed-use project ever. The investment promises big changes for the Middlesex County shore area.
