Starting July 23, Monmouth County will launch a big year of events celebrating 250 years since the Battle of Monmouth. Across 53 towns, people can experience history through battle reenactments, competitions, and community events.

The main celebration starts with a grand gala on June 25, 2026. That weekend, historic locations welcome visitors for free on May 2-3. Runners can join a 10K race on Flag Day, while equestrians participate in a Revolutionary Hunter Pace next May.

Artists can vie for a $2,026 prize in art. MonmouthNJ250.org shows information about student poetry and essay competitions. Local businesses are already making special "250" merchandise for tourists.

The Battle of Monmouth was a crucial moment in America's fight for independence. After training at Valley Forge, the Continental Army showed its strength in battle. When General Charles Lee stumbled early, Washington's presence changed everything.

This battle near the courthouse demonstrated American power. The soldiers held strong, dealing more damage than they received. Their victory boosted morale and confirmed Washington's leadership abilities.

Towns need to create committees and support the celebration plans. A big parade in Middletown on June 28, 2026, leads to the grand finale, tall ships sailing into Sandy Hook Bay on July 3.

"You're going to want to tie into what's going on. There's going to be thousands of people here," Monmouth Ocean Development Council board president Tom Gilmour said to app.com.

The French were important allies in the original battle. Their help forced British troops to move to New York City, changing their battle strategy.

"Molly Pitcher," born Mary Ludwig Hays, became famous that day. Her brave actions on the battlefield showed how everyday people helped secure independence.
