Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop Opens First New Jersey Location in Princeton
A new Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop opened its doors today at 301 N. Harrison Street in Princeton, marking the chain’s first location in New Jersey. Two local business owners, Jimit Dharia and Urvi Jatania, got franchise rights for the state. They plan to open two more shops across Central Jersey in the next 18 months.
Starting as a small shop in Wilmington, Delaware 50 years ago, this sandwich spot has grown to hundreds of locations across the country. They serve made-to-order subs, fresh cheesesteaks, and salads, with options to eat in, take out, or get catering.
‘The Bobbie,’ their signature sandwich, won ‘The Greatest Sandwich in America’ from AOL.com voters in 2009. This turkey-cranberry combo gained the national spotlight when President Joe Biden grabbed sandwiches for himself and President Barack Obama during a 2013 D.C. store opening. After Biden’s 2020 victory, the chain saw sales jump 30% in D.C. Now under Las Vegas-based ownership, they’re moving ahead with nationwide expansion plans.
In Princeton, they’re joining other sandwich spots like Jersey Mike’s, Blimpie, Subway, and Firehouse Subs. The shop offers party platters and has a special meatball setup for events.
Going forward, Dharia and Jatania hope to connect with Princeton organizations and businesses. Their new shop features modern designs and updated seating areas, following the chain’s latest look.
