Franklin Food Bank Extends Ambassador Program
On the first Monday of every month, I welcome one of the many staff members at Franklin Food Bank into the studio to discuss all the latest and upcoming events at the Food Bank.
This week I spoke with Bill Grippo. Bill served as an educator and principal in Franklin Township schools for over 40 years and now serves on the Board of Education and many other boards. When he retired in 2019, he took on the huge job of helping to drive community engagement at the Franklin Food Bank. Bill has done a tremendous amount of volunteer fundraising for the Franklin Food Bank since the 1980s and is considered a legend in Franklin Township.

Franklin Food Bank Community Distribution
The Franklin Food Bank’s Community Distribution happens this Wednesday, August 7th at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens. The church is located at 771 Somerset Street in Somerset, NJ. The distribution begins at 11 am, you can drive through or walk up to receive food for your family.
Community Distribution is one of the many programs at the Franklin Food Bank. Anyone can receive food (fresh produce, non-perishables, and beverages). It’s set up to be a drive-thru system where the volunteers and staff pack your trunk with food. The program serves anyone and everyone, with no questions, and no identification required.
Franklin Food Bank Ambassador Program Getting a Boost
In 2019 when Bill became a staff member of the Franklin Food Bank, he created the Ambassador Program. This sustaining giving program has raised over $150,000 for the food bank since then with approximately 150 donors each contributing an average of $40 per month. While it’s an incredibly successful and long-running program, they are looking to grow it.
New this year is the Ambassador Pledge Drive Week. The goal is to increase the number of Ambassadors by 30% in just one week by adding 50 new Ambassadors or hitting their goal for the year of raising $7,500 per month.
Something remarkable happened when a generous anonymous donor pledged $1,000 per month towards this program in matching funds with one suggestion, that they extend the pledge.
This week, August 5th to August 9th they are extending this pledge drive to match $1,000 collectively in new Ambassador pledges.
The Ambassador program is the Franklin Food Bank’s sustaining member program that provides the organization with financial help in covering some operational costs.
