She may call herself the "Queen of Christmas," but when footage from her performance hit social media, folks were unhappy with what they saw and heard. After a month of traveling for her Christmas-themed tour, fans thought her performances were lackluster.
A clip shared on X (formerly Twitter) recently went viral, showing the singer dressed up in a glittery nutcracker costume singer her iconic hit, "All I Want For Christmas." The user wrote sarcastically: "I haven’t seen Mariah Carey perform in years! I love her pants. And her dancing is on point." Shockingly, right at the start of the clip, Carey's lips don't sync up with the sound, causing an uproar in the comments section about her lack of live singing. Throughout the nearly two-minute-long clip, there are several instances in which it doesn't appear she is singing live. With minimal movement on the stage, Carey idly stands and makes some arm movements as her backup dancers move enthusiastically around her.

"When you have so much money and fame and ego that you don't even have to try anymore," one user commented. "I always enjoy a good old fashioned lip sync," wrote one person. Another said, "Now I know you’re kidding she’s not even keeping up with the lip-synch." One person pointed out that her timing was so wrong, "The song is played in played in NY and she is in Shanghai." Another hilariously said, "The definition of 'phoning it in.'"
One user commented, "Her lip singing is on point as well. 'Peas and carrots, peas and carrots.' She looks medicated." Another slammed the singer, "Better dust her off and wheel her out for Christmas again." One person criticized: "Lip syncing and barely can move. This tells you everything you need to know about society right now. They are numb, distracted by glitter and make-believe, and will be entertained by anything you put in front of them - even if it's fake."
Despite online criticism, Carey's Christmas tour was successful, with 16 sold-out arena shows. As we previously reported, Carey between $600,000 to $1 million each December from “All I Want For Christmas Is You” alone. In addition to that, she also rakes in $2.5 million in annual royalties, according to calculations from The Economist.
