8th Grader’s Determination Earns Him College Scholarship
KTVI says a St. Louis eighth grader recently received a scholarship to Harris Stowe State University. This is a nice story about a young man who I think is going to be successful in his life. He seems to use the motto, if there’s a will, there’s a way in his daily life.
Xavier Jones didn’t have a ride to his 8th grade graduation ceremony so he asked his brother and friend to walk six miles with him to the commencement. It took two and a half hours for the trio to get to the ceremony. This student’s determination has paid off for him. The president of Harris Stowe State, Dr Latonya Smith, heard about Jones’ walk and determination. She immediately offered him a full ride scholarship. Smith says, ”It spoke resilience, persistence, perseverance. Regardless of what the adversity is, I’m going to press my way to this promotion ceremony. So that is what sparked my interest in saying, ‘Hey, this is the type of kid that we want to recruit to Harris-Stowe.”
