Morgan Wade Prepares for Double Mastectomy
Worrying if you are going to get any type of cancer can be very stressful. There are genetic testing sources that can identify if you have a type of gene for a certain type of cancer. If you remember it was about five years ago that Angelina Jolie elected to proceed with prophylactic double mastectomy after undergoing genetic screening and learning that she had a significantly elevated risk of developing breast cancer due to mutation of the BRCA1 gene. Angelina elected to have this surgery as a preventive to breast cancer.
This time around it is country singer Morgan Wade who is set to undergo a double mastectomy this fall. The singer reveals that it’s a preventative surgery she chose to have after a recent diagnosis. On Instagram, Wade shared a headline from the New York Post’s Page Six, telling fans that she has been diagnosed with a Rad51D gene mutation.

According to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Rad51D gene helps prevent cancer, and a mutation causes it to stop working properly.
Wade sources FacingOurRisk.org in sharing that women with a Rad51D gene mutation have a 20-40 percent lifetime risk for breast cancer.
Would you have invasive preventative surgery if you were in Wade’s shoes? Why, or why not?
