AAA Reveals Top 9 Destinations including NY For Memorial Day Weekend
Where will you be going Memorial Day weekend If you’re planning a trip for Memorial Day weekend you’re not alone. We’ll be hitting the Jersey shore for a few days. If you live in Jersey then chances are that’s what you’ll be doing. Nearly every caller this morning on “Joel and Maryann in the Morning” said they either had a beach house, were visiting a friend’s vacation home, or renting a Jersey shore place for the weekend. However, according to AAA, that’s not where most Americans will be going, not even close. There are casinos and shows where they’ll be going, but it’s not Atlantic City.
If it’s casinos they’re looking for, they’ve popped up in states all over the country over the past few years, but Las Vegas remains the most popular tourist destination. I kind of have a rule that I don’t fly anywhere for vacation if it’s only for a few days.
Paula Twidale, Senior Vice President of AAA Travel says, “This is expected to be the third busiest Memorial Day weekend since 2000, when AAA started tracking holiday travel, “more Americans are planning trips and booking them earlier, despite inflation. This summer travel season could be one for the record books, especially at airports.” They issued a warning for people to arrive at airports at least three hours early to accommodate the heavier-than-normal crowds.
Sin City is expected to be the top destination for travelers over Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA. New York City checks in second on the list of nine, followed by Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando. San Francisco is projected to be the sixth most-visited destination, followed by yet another Florida city: Miami. Honolulu comes in at number eight, followed by Atlanta at number nine. Topping the list of top international destinations is London, followed by Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Cancun.
