Joel and Maryann Speak with Steve Guttenberg About His New Brunswick Show

Legendary actor Steve Guttenberg, who you may remember bursting onto the scene back in the 1980s, is coming to New Brunswick. Some of his most notable films include “Police Academy,” “Three Men and a Baby,” “Cocoon,” “Short Circuit,” and “Diner.” Most recently he’s appeared on “The Goldbergs” as Dr. Katman. He’s been nominated for several awards throughout his career, including a Golden Globe for his role in “Cocoon” as Jack Bonner.

Steve’s got a new project, and for the next month or so, he’ll be residing in Central Jersey. He’s performing “Tales from the Guttenberg Bible” at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick.

We got the chance to speak with Steve about his career, his life, and his new show. Steve talks about a crazy decade when he was in more movies than any other actor, and a few of the roles he turned down including a “Big” one. Check out our interview with Steve here…

“Tales from the Guttenberg Bible” at George Street Playhouse features 90 characters, four actors, and one Steve Guttenberg, this fully staged production is a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s a farcical, laugh-out-loud story, from the Guttenberg’s family home on Long Island all the way to the glamour of Hollywood. It’s about his first 10 years in Hollywood including how he broke into the Paramount lot, his run-ins with Paul Reiser, Tom Selleck, Kevin Bacon, and more.

Joel has been working in New Jersey radio since college and started at Magic in 2002 as the Morning Show Host, “I can’t think of another place where I’d fit more perfectly; it’s just a great company with awesome people.” Joel is married to Kathleen, his elementary school sweetheart (they were each other’s first dates at age 9), shares a birthday with his oldest son, Ty, and has twins, Kiera and Liam. Joel runs at least 3.1 miles every day and enjoys playing basketball, doing laundry, saving his turn signal for when he really needs it, kissing dogs through a fence, using coasters, making that cool noise by rubbing his fingers on balloons, and chasing after ping pong balls on a windy cruise ship.
