Happy National Pet Day to you and your four-legged, furry, scaly, or feathered friends!

Pets come in all shapes and sizes, but there’s one type of lovable fluff-balls the folks at Shane Co. decided to study this week, puppies!!! Using the American Kennel Club's top 38 dog breeds, they pulled Google Trends data to track searches over the last five years. They specifically pulled results for puppy preferences, not dogs in general, to find out which puppy breed New Jersey has been searching for most. They actually studied puppy preferences in all states, from down in Florida, up to Alaska, and every state in between.

As for the most popular puppy overall, Golden Retriever puppies won the national title of America’s favorite puppy, and were the top in six states. Siberian Huskies were searched most in four states, followed by Chow Chow's and English Bulldogs with three states each. The other puppy breeds that showed up on the list were Australian Shephard, Bassett Hound, Bernese Mountain Dog, Border Collie, Cane Corso, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Corgi, Dachshund, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, German Shepherd, Great Pyrenees, Greyhound, Labradoodle, Labrador Retriever, Mastiff, Miniature Schnauzer, Pit Bull, Pomeranian, Pug, Rottweiler, Shiba Inu, Shih Tzu, and St. Bernard.

Actually, there was one more that also happens to be the most popular puppy in New Jersey, the Yorkshire Terrier.

There's a new top dog!

The American Kennel Club has revealed some dog house-shaking news. For the first time in 31 years, the Labrador Retriever is not the country's most popular dog breed. The most popular dog has climbed up the list from being number 14 in 2012 to slowly working its way up to the top. After landing at number 2 in 2021, the French Bulldog is the number one breed in America.

The AKC says, "The Frenchie is a smart, compact breed, and they can fit into various different lifestyles, perfect for people all across the country. This petite dog was first recognized by the AKC in 1898; they are beloved by everyone from families to single owners for their charming and adaptable nature. They have surged in popularity in cities across the country since their small size and generally quiet demeanor make them good fits for apartments and smaller homes." The AKC was founded in 1884 and ranks 200 breeds.

Yes, you are correct if you guessed that Treeing Walker Coonhounds came in at 159 on the list.

My favorite came in at 8, here's the top ten...
