The Logan actor revealed he had two biopsies done for basal cell carcinoma -- aka skin cancer. Posting to Instagram Monday (April 3), the 54-year-old Aussie posted a video to offer fans advice and give an update on his health.
Jackman is seen wearing a bandage over his nose, noting a visit to his doctor's office. "I wanted you to hear it from me just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever. I've just had two biopsies done," he says in the clip. Jackman then says his doctor saw "little things, could be or could not be basal cell, in her opinion. She doesn't know." In 2-3 days, he says he will find out whether or not he has it and will share the news with his 31 million followers.
The actor did reassure fans that basal cell is the "least dangerous" of all the types of skin cancers out there. He reminded us that summer is coming and to "please wear sunscreen," both in the video and in his caption. He adds, "It is just not worth it. No matter how much you want a tan, trust me, trust me, trust me."
This Isn't The First Scare
He adds that his current scare is from "stuff that happened 25 years ago, and it's coming out now." Jackman has been treated for basal cell carcinoma many times before -- at least six times. Back in 2016, the actor shared to his social media a photo of his bandaged nose. He wrote in the caption: "An example of what happens when you don't wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups."
While appearing on LIVE! With Kelly in 2017, Hugh said, "So here's the thing. One sunburn, you're susceptible to cancer. One. And all of this is 25, 30 years after, the doctor told me," he added. "Our rule, as kids, growing up, was you get burned and peel two or three times, then you're set."
The Sexiest Men Alive From The Last 20 Years
Take a stroll through the last 20 years of People's Sexiest Men Alive. This year, the award went to Grey's Anatomy's neurosurgeon Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd. The long-awaited title is something we look forward to every year, and this year's choice has been worth the wait. The actor has never been given the title before, and with nearly 20 years of being television eye candy, the actor told the publication when he first heard the news, “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right?” As for how his kids will respond, the Maine native insists they’re just going to make fun of him.
Humble Beginnings
Growing up in Maine, he recalled always having to be moving, so he took up a lot of sports like baseball, soccer, skiing, cycling." The Ferrari actor had dyslexia, so he didn't love school, and described himself as a "late bloomer." In his youth, Dempsey joined a vaudeville troupe and rode a unicycle while juggling.
Now, the key is maturity and wisdom for the Can't Buy Me Love alum. "You go through cycles of life, so you understand there are going to be high and low moments and what are the most important things. Everything else is a gift.” Despite his heartthrob status over the years, “I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” he says of his new title.
