Have you or do you know someone who found their partner on a dating app? If so, how long did it take? In case you’re wondering, it probably took many, many swipes and a whole lot of dates.

According to a new study by Shane Co., 67% of Americans say they met their current partner through a dating app. But when it comes to finding lasting love, they wanted to find out just how many swipes it takes.

The study says, on average, it takes 3,960 swipes.

The engagement ring company surveyed over 1,000 Americans who claimed to have met their current partner on dating apps. From the responses, they determined the average number of swipes made in one minute, and used that metric, along with the reported overall time spent on dating apps, to calculate how many swipes were made before finding a significant other.

Here’s what you need to know if you’re swiping for a relationship:

  • It takes 3,960 swipes to find a significant other on a dating app, on average.
  • The average American spends 5.83 hours per week on dating apps.

  • Americans will spend about eight months and 11 days on dating apps before finding a partner.

  • 67% of Americans say they met their current partner through a dating app.

  • 40% of Americans dating someone they met on a dating app, say they met on Tinder. Tinder is also the most successful matchmaker, with 29.6% of respondents engaged or married to a partner from the app. Bumble and Hinge trail behind at 12.9% and 5% respectively.

  • Men spend fewer hours per week, but more time per profile, and have a higher success rate when compared with women

The article also found that “while younger generations turn to apps like Tinder and Bumble to meet their significant others, the older crowd stays true to the OG dating platform that started it all, 50% of Baby Boomers who met their current partner on apps say they met them on Match.”
