Kylie Jenner Accused Of Mocking Astroworld Victims With ‘Stormiworld’

Kylie Jenner is once again being criticized over throwing an Astroworld-themed birthday party for her two children, whom she shares with Travis Scott. The Kardashians star shared videos and photos from the “It Takes Two” themed birthday bash for both Stormi and Aire Webster on Wednesday (February 1). Stormi turned five on February 1, while her baby brother celebrates his first birthday Thursday.

Posting on her Instagram Stories yesterday, Kylie, 25, shared a photo of an inflatable Astroworld head rainbow inflatable slide. In addition to that, there was another inflatable Astroworld head in all grey that was a tunnel leading up to the party. Today, the Kylie Cosmetics founder shared snaps of a birthday celebration just for Aire — featuring yet another Astroworld head. This time, it was a tunnel entrance for a race car-themed bash.

This isn’t the first time Kylie has thrown StormiWorld parties; she threw one in 2019 for Stormi’s first birthday and again for her second and third birthday parties. The socialite received backlash when she hosted the event in February 2021 — breaking numerous official COVID-19 restrictions. Kylie said at the time that “Stormiworld 3 is canceled for obvious reasons.” She added that she “still went all out” and had a party with Stormi’s cousins and family members instead.

Folks online were outraged by Kylie continuing to associate her child’s birthday with such a devastating tragedy that ended in 10 deaths — including a 9-year-old boy. The reality star was branded “tasteless” and “callous” as her actions were discussed online. Writing on a Reddit forum, one person said of the “Stormiworld” head’s comeback: “Isn’t this tasteless after the Astroworld tragedy…..where children died…” Another person commented: “This birthday party theme is tone deaf and ugly. Maybe she could do something her daughter actually wants for her birthday? I’m sure it’s not a replica of the festival where daddy insights violence and ten people die including a 9 year old.”

Another Reddit user asked: “The Astroworld themed birthday of Stormi and Aire is reason enough to cancel them. 10 people died because of the Astroworld festival, one of those people being a 9 year old little boy. Is this a joke ?” One person commented: “Kylie and Travis aren’t even together anymore. Kylie has no reason to cling on to this theme anymore. She doesn’t have to defend or protect her ex anymore…. yet she still does.”

Kylie has not acknowledged the backlash to Stormi or Aire’s birthday parties. Instead, Jenner posted a tribute video for her son on Instagram today writing, “AIRE. my son, my moon, my stars. best year of my life with you. you complete us my angel. mommy loves you. happy 1st birthday. may God always bless you.”

The Kylie Skin founder revealed the new name of her and Travis’ son recently along with pictures. She and Scott, 31, welcomed their son last February and initially named him Wolf Jacques. However, she shared on her Instagram Story a month later that her son’s name “isn’t Wolf anymore.” The former couple broke up at the end of 2022 after having an on-again-off-again relationship since 2017.

• She Couldn't Afford Gas For Her Car or Groceries

  Her salary was $35,000 although she was working for a company that was sure to make millions. She revealed that at one point where there were “19 miles to empty in my gas tank, 15 miles between my apartment and my office, and $5 and change in my bank account. Insider estimated the apps would generate $32,000,000 from the $3 monthly subscriptions in a single year. I was shopping for groceries at the 99 Cents Only Store.”

• But They Didn't Want Her To Take Freelance Gigs

  “To make ends meet, I freelanced for the entertainment site Ranker,” she said, “compiling clickbait-y lists like ‘Fun Facts You Didn’t Know About Lady Gaga’ and ‘Which Delayed Albums Were Actually Worth The Wait?’ at $20 to $50 apiece. When Whalerock [the company that ran the apps] caught wind of it, I was called into a manager’s office and reprimanded. Freelancing apparently violated a company rule restricting the outside writing projects employees could pursue.” She noted, “Hustling your way to greater success, it seemed, was for the already rich, not those who worked for them.​​” Ultimately, she was allowed to continue writing lists for Ranker, but future freelance assignments would require approval, they said. DeFino said she stopped pursuing new freelance clients.

• There Was No Time Off

  When the apps’ anticipated launch date neared, working hours increased. “It was 24/7,” said Jennifer Chan, who joined the Kardashian-Jenner apps as a senior editor in July 2015. “I have many memories of working weekends, giving up holidays and evenings, missing birthday parties. I remember [when] we were still in launch mode, we got the afternoon off on a holiday, and [I was] like, I don’t have any plans because everyone I know assumes I’m unavailable.” She added, “One Christmas, Kanye had just given [Kim] like, a million gifts, and she wanted me to post all the gifts on Christmas Day. I had to get [an internet] hotspot. It was my Christmas also, but I was posting all day to her app.” Answering holiday emails “was an expectation set by Whalerock,” the company that ran the apps. “I don’t know if it was explicitly said, but it was pretty clear we couldn’t keep [the sisters] waiting.”

• There Was Very Little Access to the Sisters

  Pre-launch, the Kardashian-Jenner family weren’t heavily involved in the editorial aspect of day-to-day operations and she was actually dispatched to a movie premiere to “get original quotes from Kendall and Kylie—for use in their own apps.” To add insult to injury, she had to fight for sound bites with members of the general media. In other words, she was a Kardashian employee who needed Kardashian quotes for her job and had to fight with other members of the press to get them.

• It Makes It Tough To Have A Relationship

  Lina, another former app editor who asked that her name be changed for fear of retaliation, said that “I would be on a date with my partner and I’d be on my phone, and this was every night. He’d be like, ‘Can you please put your phone down?’ and I’d be like, ‘No, I can’t, this is a Kardashian!’ I wanted to make myself available at crazy hours and on the weekend because of who she was. I literally would be up at 2 a.m. answering her emails.”

• They Were Promoting A Lie

  “I knew that the apps sold a beauty ideal that was unrealistic and unattainable,” she said. “Even for the Kardashian-Jenners themselves. Kylie’s app often promoted her $29 Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits. (Kylie’s lips are famously the product of injectables.) Khloé’s app shared how to use contouring makeup to “get a nose job every single day.” (Khloé has since admitted to having an actual, surgical nose job.) Kim’s app published articles like “How To Facetune Your Face With Makeup.” (During my time there, Whalerock Industries employed a Photoshop artist to airbrush images for the apps.)”
