LQBTQ+ Shows Most Popular in New Jersey and U.S.
The folks at Shane Co. set out to find what is the most popular LQBTQ+ show in each state, including New Jersey, across the country according to Google searches. They studied which shows were searched the most in each state and came up with some interesting results.
My favorite on the list is “Schitt’s Creek.” My wife and I have seen every episode and whenever we can’t find something to watch, we’ll pop one on. All of the characters are phenomenal, especially Moira, played by Catherine O’Hara, and David, played by Dan Levy. In other “Schitt’s” news, writer Monica Heisey’s new novel, “Really Good, Actually,” has been released today. We’re also big fans of “Modern Family” which tied for fifth place with “Elite” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
The most searched LGBTQ+ show overall is “Euphoria,” HBO’s Emmy-winning drama that’s an American version of an Israeli show of the same name. The show is a favorite in 13 states. It’s “often praised for its unflinching portrayal of addiction, mental health, and friendship.” It stars Zendaya, who is also an executive producer.
Second on the list is “Batwoman,” popular in six states and features the first-ever Black, bisexual “Batwoman” played by Javicia Leslie.
In third place is Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black,” which burst on the scene in 2013 and ran for six years. During that time it was Netflix’s most-watched original series.
So what is the most popular LQBTQ+ show in New Jersey? According to the study, it’s “The L Word: Generation Q.” The Showtime drama stars Jennifer Beals, Kate Moennig, and Leisha Hailey, it first aired in 2019 and is about life and love in Los Angeles.
