A poll of 2,000 American adults notes that 7 in 10 shoppers call looking for the right gift "exciting," even if they're having a devil of a time finding it.
Nearly as many respondents, 65%, compared looking for that present to "hunting for treasure," even as 57% say they often keep a backup gift idea in their head if it's needed.
Thirty-one percent said gaming consoles are the toughest to find, followed by whatever new game is out to play (29%). The latest and greatest smartphone comes in third, with 23% of respondents saying they've been looking for those.
Eighty percent say despite the challenges, they've managed to find what they've been searching for this year.
In fact, 55% called it "extremely satisfying" when they manage to do the seemingly impossible and snag that perfect gift — maybe that's why the average shopper is willing to wait three weeks to land that white whale, according to the poll commissioned by BJ’s Wholesale Club.
