Philly-Famous Cheesesteak Spot Set To Open In N.J.
One of Philadelphia’s most famous cheesesteak shops is coming to New Jersey. Geno’s Steaks is a Philly-famous restaurant and has been a staple in the community since it opened its doors in 1966. The steak spot was founded by the late Joey Vento and is now run by Vento’s son Geno. The iconic Philadelphia-based restaurant is located on East Passyunk Avenue and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This month, Geno’s Steaks opens at Foodiehall, a virtual food hall at 1931 Olney Avenue in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, The Patch reports. This is Geno’s Steaks first location outside of Philly.
Foodiehall is a delivery and pickup-only e-restaurant founded by Dan Goldberg. Geno’s Steaks is Foodiehalls’ eighth restaurant concept.
“We receive many requests to ship our cheesesteaks outside of the Philadelphia area, so we’re thrilled to be able to now offer our cheesesteaks and roast pork sandwiches to the residents of South Jersey by being part of this concept,” said Vento.
The Geno’s Steaks menu in the Foodiehall offers a variety of sandwich options with toppings such as Cheese Whiz, American Cheese, Provolone, mushrooms, peppers, and raw or fried onions. Several proteins are offered such as the original cheesesteak hoagie which is made with American cheese and premium thinly sliced ribeye steak, a slow-cooked pork roast, and a “pizza steak” option, among others.
“Geno’s Steaks has been a beloved Philadelphia institution for more than 50 years, and since we were looking to add a cheesesteak concept to our repertoire, we knew this was the right move,” said Goldberg. “We’ve been discussing this partnership with Geno for some time now, and it’s been really incredible to learn about all that goes into creating his delicious sandwiches. We’re super excited to bring such an iconic brand to South Jersey.”
Foodiehall is closed Mondays, and open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays-Sundays.
In addition to bringing the great Philly cheesesteak to the Garden State, Foodiehall also gives back to the community. For each meal sold, Foodiehall donates a meal to someone in need through Feeding America.
“When you support Feeding America. you help their nationwide networks including school-based food pantries, emergency disaster relief, and more,” said Goldberg per outlet. “And adding a brand as popular as Geno’s will not only make local cheesesteak and roast pork lovers happy, but it means that more meals will be donated to those in need, which we couldn’t be happier about.”
