The auto manufacturer says potential fuel line cracks in Ford Escape and Bronco Sports SUVs have already caused fires under the hoods of at least 20 vehicles.
According to Insurance Journal, the recall affects Escapes made between 2022 and 2023, and Bronco Sports SUVs made between 2021 and 2023.
Rather than replace the faulty fuel injector that's causing the cracks, Ford is adding a program to the vehicles' computers that alerts drivers when fuel is leaking, the company reports. A tube that will drain leaked fuel down to the ground will also be added, Ford officials say.
Some of these same SUVs were involved in an earlier recall that also involved a possibility of fire. That recall, announced in March, involved a potential leak that could allow oil to get to places in the car where it might catch fire.
