As you’re cooking, waiting for, or heading to Thanksgiving dinner, which part of the meal are you looking forward to most? When I think of Thanksgiving dinner the first food that comes to mind is the stuffing. That’s not to say I don’t love me some juicy bird (dark meat please), but the stuffing, and I mean the good stuffing that’s cooked inside the turkey, is so damn good.

When it comes to Thanksgiving, a new survey by Campbell’s shows a lot of Americans would rather fill up on side dishes than the famous bird that is the one thing you need or Thanksgiving dinner wouldn’t be Thanksgiving dinner. According to the Campbell’s State of the Sides survey, sixty-six percent of those polled prefer side dishes to the turkey itself, and half say they’d be fine with skipping the bird altogether.

In spite of rising prices at the grocery store, ninety percent of respondents say they’re making as many sides as last year or in some cases, more sides than they offered guests last year. It was no surprise to me that stuffing topped the list of the most sought-after side dishes, according to the poll, followed by mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and macaroni and cheese. Almost all of those surveyed say they look forward to enjoying the sides all over again as leftovers the next day, weekend, and following week…turkey sandwiches for lunch, awesome! The only issue Americans had when it came to the delicious dishes is the actual dishes that the food was on: 73% of Americans say they find their plates too small to handle all the stuff they want to pack onto them.

“In celebration of the sides being the most loved on the holiday table, the brand is also introducing the Campbell’s Holiday Sides Plate to give consumers exactly what they need, more room for their sides. The limited-edition, collector-worthy, sides-only plate was designed intentionally to be the ultimate dinnerware for side dishes.” Unfortunately, they sold out quickly.
