House of the Dragon ended with fans both wanting more and others demanding answers for what they describe as a very controversial scene. However, one of the actresses for the hit HBO spinoff is stepping up to call out those criticisms. So what scene is the subject of debate?
Well for those who are out of the loop. HBO’s first official spinoff to Game of Thornes hit the mark and brought down the whole castle as House of The Dragon was a massive success for the network as it ignited the same feelings fans had in the earlier seasons of the mainline series. This prequel takes place 200 years when the Targaryen house was still ruled but was under the threat of a civil war all for the iron throne.
Just like the original series House of The Dragon has its fair share of blood and gore, but it also shows a side of life we haven’t really seen before. That being multiple scenes of childbirth as this is a point in the timeline where a lot of key figures are born and raised. Though some seem to have a problem with the genuine showing of what childbirth is like. This caused Actress Emma D’Arcy who plays the older Princess Rhaenyra to defend the show from critics. She talked to the team at GQ where she believes it shouldn’t be a controversy to see women in labor on television quote her “I take real issue with the idea that we shouldn't see women in labor depicted with gritty realism, and blood, and placentas. Especially on a show where part of its USP is big, gory battle sequences.”
She makes a fair point as well in a show with people being burned, beheaded, and even eaten alive by crabs, what makes this so controversial? I do hope this kind of backlash, doesn’t make the people in charge bend their knees because personally I think House of the Dragon is an amazing follow-up to Game of Thrones and I can’t wait to see what else HBO and creator Geroge R. R. Martin has in store for us.
