Many people refer to their pets as their “kids”.  There are a lot of people who would love to get out of work early, or work from home every now and then to give their fur ball the attention they need. I have four dogs dogs, three ducks and 21 chickens. There are times that my animals need special care and I wish I had some extra time in the day to tend to them.  Do you thinks employers need to throw pet parents a bone?

The NY Post says an Australian woman is going viral because she believes that pet owners should receive the same workplace benefits that parents do. Mary Rose Madigan wrote an essay suggesting that “dog moms” do not receive enough respect at work while other mothers are given flexibility with their schedules.

Mary asked, “Do you need to pick your kids up from day care? Same! My son goes to Doggy Day Care. It is also very unaffordable, $42 a day, and it costs extra if I’m late! I watch as working moms can head off early, introduce flexible hours, or work from home more often with absolute envy … I feel we need to push that same support towards moms with pets … call me barking mad if you want, but not all of us will have kids. And I’m not ashamed to say that we also need space to dote on our dogs, cats and heck, even pet lizards!”
