Will North America Have Their Worst Season At Worlds 2022?
The League of Legends World Championship also known as World 2022 is in full swing and some teams have had massive success so far, while other teams have not so much. Specifically, the teams from the North American Region may just end up having their worst season in the history of the franchise.
Like previous years three teams from NA have made it into Worlds. Those being Cloud9, 100Theieves, and Evil Geniuses. EG earned their spot at the last chance qualifier where they beat an EU team, something that made history as it was reported that EG was the first team from their region to beat an EU representative in an international best-of series. To some, this showed that perhaps an NA team would be able to make it to the Semifinals, something that hasn’t happened since 2018 and has only happened twice in the history of Worlds. However, that hope so far has been crushed as at the time of writing all 3 NA teams have yet to win a single match something that is unprecedented.
Each team only has three more chances to win at the very least 2 games if they want any chance of a tiebreaker, though it seems unlikely that it will happen. The only hope is that they win at least one game so it does not turn into the worst season NA has had at Worlds in the history of the franchise. Though is this some kind of divine karma after one player from NA was trolling by tweeting out that NA was superior to EU? Jojopyun for EG has been very vocal about his belief that NA is better than the EU. While some of it may be just a joke, it is a bit ironic that the year an NA team beats an EU team, they have their worst season.
Overall, we will just have to wait and see as Cloud9 plays today, Evil Geniuses plays tomorrow and 100Thieves plays on Sunday. No matter the outcome I am excited to see which teams will move on to the quarterfinals and which teams are left in the dust.
